Jean Campbell, M.S., President, Campbell Development Group (CDG)
Her career in human services and supporting youth and adults with various disabilities spans over 40 years. In May, 1993, Newsweek magazine said of Jean, “Others do deals. She does good: training the disabled to create interactive programs.” She received a grant from New York State to start the first multimedia computer training center in the United States for people with disabilities.
Her other credentials include:
- She has designed and developed over 100 educational, health care and social welfare service programs for youth and adults. She has raised over $100 million, through grants, to support these initiatives.
- Jean was the executive director of D.E.B.R.A of America. Debra of America is part of DEBRA International, a worldwide network of national groups working on behalf of all people living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Epidermolysis Bullosa, or EB, is a rare genetic connective tissue disorder that affects 1 out of every 20,000 births in the United States per year.
- The founding director of South East Consortium for Special Services in 1980 located in Mamaroneck, NY. The mission was to provide therapeutic recreation programs and leisure-related services to children and adults with disabilities and other special needs residing in 9 neighboring communities.
- As the consultant development director for Frances Schervier Home and Hospital in Riverdale, NY in 1984, Schervier was able to expand its home care program from 40 to 150 patients. This increase guaranteed the continued existence of the program. In addition, it provided Schervier with an annual income increase of $2.5 million.
- Jean was the founding director of The Choices Center located in Port Chester, NY. The Choices Center utilized research to bring adults with disabilities into the employment mainstream. It was the first multimedia computer training center in the United States for people with disabilities.
- For New York City over an 11 year period, Jean designed and secured funds for 74 new programs and services that benefited children in child welfare, and adults in drug treatment and Long Term Care facilities.
- As a consultant to the City of New Rochelle, NY, Jean secured education grants for students with learning disabilities and behavior disorders.
- The former founding director of the American Cancer Society NYC Cancer Patient Navigator Program serving 13 hospitals in NYC. Jean recruited, trained and supervised seven staff navigators and 75 volunteers, 98 percent of whom were survivors. The program served the needs of thousands of women and men with cancer.
Education
Jean Campbell has a Master of Science from Herbert H. Lehman College, Bronx, NY, in Education/Therapeutic Recreation (1980) and a Bachelor of Arts (1975) in Psychology from Empire State College.
She became certified in TESOL, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, in 2007.
Achievements
Jean is a published book author, and a digital and print media magazine writer.
She is a former staff writer for the New York Nonprofit Press.
Jean is a 2 x breast cancer survivor. She writes magazine copy and ghostwrites about breast cancer for health professionals and survivors. She was a breast cancer columnist for www.verywellhealth.com/jean-campbell-ms-429744.
Jean has presented at the Smithsonian on Multimedia Communications.
Jean, as executive director of D.E.B.R.A of America, testified before Congress on behalf of the Department of Defense in securing funding of $3 million for a US Army Mustard Gas research project.
